San José City College now offers the fastest and most effective way to transfer to
a California State University (CSU).
The Business and Data Analytics certificate program allows students to take their
career to the next level and prepare them for opportunities in the much sought after
field of Data Analytics. Students will complete four comprehensive courses for a total
of 12 units.
SJCC offers an Associate in Science (AS) degree and three levels of certificates:
Certificate of Achievement - Level 1, Certificate of Achievement - Level 2, and Certificate
of Achievement - Level 3 in Computer Applications. Microsoft Office Specialist Certification,
the premier in Microsoft desktop certification, is a globally recognized standard
for demonstrating desktop skills which helps to meet the demand for qualified and
knowledgeable people in the modern workplace. Our courses and certificates will prepare
students to take the Microsoft Office Specialist and Expert Level (MOS) Exams.
SJCC offers an Associate in Arts degree in Graphic Design, that features design principles
and multimedia concepts as used in print media and digital media using industry standard
design software and tools to produce contents for a Graphic Design Portfolio.
The Digital Media program is a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the converging
fields of journalism, communication and new media technology. It responds to the need
for people skilled in effective communications in all levels of society including
industry, education, art and music, and the public arena.
Economics is the study of how people choose to use scarce resources to produce goods
and services and how they make allocation decisions to satisfy their wants. In pursuing
the Associate in Arts in Economics for Transfer degree, students acquire skills in
analyzing problems using sound reasoning to make decisions.
SJCC offers an Associate in Science and a Certificate of Achievement in Real Estate.
Students will complete courses designed to meet the educational requirements of the
California Bureau of Real Estate (CalBRE) for state licensing.

The degree programs require a minimum of 60 units, of which at least 36 units must
be in a selected CIS major, and at least 24 units must be General Education units.
Several levels of certificates are available in each of the five areas. The certificate
programs can be completed without the General Education requirements.
Registered Dental Assisting Programs are designed to instruct women and men with the
knowledge and skills necessary to perform as dental health care paraprofessionals.
Students are taught to assist in all phases of general dentistry and dental specialties
including prosthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, and
pediatric dentistry.
The Emergency Medical Services Technology Certificate of Specialization is designed
to prepare the student to become a competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technician
(EMT). Students will receive the technical knowledge and necessary skills to enter
a career in emergency medical services.
The Associate in Arts in Kinesiology for Transfer (AA-T) degree will prepare students
with the strong foundation necessary for pursuing studies at the university level
in various careers in the health, fitness, and sports industries.
Medical Assistants play a vital role in the management and efficient operations of
doctors' offices, clinics, and other medical facilities. With the growth of the aging
baby-boom population, the demand for preventive medical services continues to increase,
and physicians will hire more medical assistants to perform routine administrative
and clinical duties, allowing the physicians to see more patients.
This degree prepares students to transfer to Nutrition and Dietetics four-year programs,
and provides students opportunities to become dietitians, nutrition counselors, nutrition
educators, and sports nutritionists.
In the Administration of Justice program, you can learn about the functions and relationships
of the police, prosecution, courts, probation and correctional systems of the United
States.
The Administration of Justice program offers practical and technical instruction designed
to meet the increasing demand for criminal justice system employees and provides opportunities
for current employees to upgrade their skills.
As a student in the Alcohol and Drug Studies program, you will prepare to work with
the alcohol and other drug-dependent population and the family and employer of the
chemically dependent person.
The program addresses community needs for trained alcohol and other drug specialists
to work and volunteer in public and private agencies in the Bay Area and across California.
The Child and Adolescent Development Associate Degree for Transfer allows students
to transfer to a CSU campus to finish a bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent
Development/Human Development/Family Studies.
The Certificate of Specialization in Developmental Disabilities Specialist program
is designed for students interested in working in various settings serving children
or adults with developmental disabilities. The coursework combines theory and application.

Our Graduates of the Associate in Science Degree Program qualify through academic
preparation and field experience for work in child centers, pre-schools, day care

The Associate in Arts in History for Transfer (AA-T) meets the lower division course
requirements necessary for the California State University (CSU) system. History is
studied in order to fully understand the complexities of this modern globalized world.
In the 21st century, history is moving rapidly as an integrative, multidisciplinary
science.
The coursework required to earn an AA-T in Law, Public Policy, and Society has been
identified as good preparation for law school upon completion of a bachelor’s degree.
This interdisciplinary area of emphasis emphasizes the development of communication
skills, introduces students to the legal field, and prepares students for further

The Esthetics Program is composed of 600 hours of instruction to satisfy the requirements
of the California State Board of Cosmetology. Students can earn Certificate of Achievement
- Level 2 by completing two semesters of course work with classes being held in the
evenings and Saturdays. Upon completion of the program students are eligible to take
the State Board Esthetics examination.
In response to requests from industry partners, San José City developed this program
to prepare participants to monitor, maintain and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical
equipment in facilities ranging from operating rooms, hotels, commercial buildings
to clean rooms.
Lasers are now the enabling devices of choice for many industries that range from
medicine, entertainment, telecommunications, and aesthetics, to quality control. Their
ubiquity has resulted in the sky-rocketing demand for personnel who are well-versed
in laser technology for both technical and non-technical positions.
We therefore give our students both theoretical and hands-on competencies needed to
tackle most common problems and issues encountered in the laser/laser system environments
through regular course and industry internships.
The contributions of the American machinist are felt in nearly every facet of industry
- from the production of nuts and bolts measuring within one one-thousandth of an
inch in accuracy - to a full-scale space shuttle.
Accuracy is the essence of any machined product. After reading blueprints, the machinist
must take raw material and form and fabricate it into a finished machined part.

in Communication Studies and Mass Media. Communication Studies and Mass Media is the
study of human communication. It includes public speaking, argumentation and persuasion,
and interpersonal, intercultural, and small group communication.
The Associate in Arts in English for Transfer meets the lower division course requirements
necessary for the California State University (CSU) system. It is a blend of academic,
professional and creative writing disciplines. This degree is ideally suited for students
wanting to pursue careers in, but not limited to, law, teaching, writing, journalism,
and grant writing and development.
The ESL Certificate of Competency will prepare students to progress in a career path
or to undertake degree-applicable or non-degree-applicable credit courses. The ESL
Certificate of Competency will be issued by the ESL Department and will not appear
on the transcripts.
Journalism at San José City College is a multi-faceted program that offers classes
in broadcasting, mass media, writing and reporting, and newspaper production and management.

The Network Administration certificate and degree program is designed to provide students
with the necessary skills to gain employment as a network administrator. Most business
computers are being connected in networks. The industry needs skilled people to configure,
troubleshoot, and maintain these networks. The Network Administration Program is designed
to train students to fill these needs. Five certificates and three Associate in Science
Degrees specializing in General Networking MCSE Windows, CIS, and UNIX are offered.
The Associate in Science in Computer Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree prepares students
for seamless transfer to a CSU. The Computer Science program prepares students for
employment in careers in Computer Science and Information Technology (such as computer
programming) and for transfer to baccalaureate institutions in order to pursue an
advanced degree.

Associate in Arts, Engineering Major meets the lower division course requirements
necessary for a student to transfer to a four-year university as a junior to complete
their baccalaureate degree in engineering.
