Success Resources
Why San José City College Engineering
If you’d like to stay in (or come to!) California to chase your dream career as an engineer in Silicon Valley, you have to start with the fundamentals. Beginnings are important, because they set the tone for the rest of your journey.
All Classes Are Transfer Friendly for General Engineering
Since they are essential for everyone, SJCC’s new Engineering Department is starting out with the essentials, but doing it right(we’ll talk more about this later).
All seven engineering classes will be CID aligned, which means they fulfill transfer requirements for all types of engineering degrees at public universities in California. That means, anyone who wants to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at a UC or a CSU can start here at SJCC.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
SJCC offers an Associate in Arts (AA) degree in Engineering. This program provides the lower-division coursework necessary for students aiming to transfer to a four-year university as juniors to complete their bachelor's degrees in engineering. Additionally, the program opens opportunities for entry-level internships in the engineering field.
The engineering curriculum at SJCC includes courses that introduce students to the engineering profession, devices, processes, and techniques used in solving engineering problems. Students engage in hands-on and computer-based labs, learning modern engineering tools. The program emphasizes the development of engineering leadership, team self-management skills, and effective communication through engineering drawings and computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Prerequisites may vary depending on specific courses within the program. For instance, some courses recommend completion of mathematics courses such as MATH 022 or MATH 025 with a grade of 'C' or better. It's advisable to consult the SJCC course catalog or speak with an academic counselor for detailed information on course prerequisites.
SJCC offers various resources to support engineering students, including access to the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) Program. MESA is a state-funded initiative designed to support educationally and economically disadvantaged students in the STEM fields, providing assistance to help them transfer to four-year university programs and beyond.
Prospective students should follow SJCC's standard application process, which includes submitting an online application, providing necessary transcripts, and meeting with a counselor to develop an educational plan tailored to their engineering goals.
