I Can Go To College

The CCPG affords the following benefits to qualified students who are California residents, or qualify under AB540:

  • Waives your enrollment fees - $46/unit
  • Discounts your parking permit - $25 per semester
  • CCPG does not waive the Student Health ($21), Transportation ($11), and Student Activity ($5) fees More information on the CCPG

To apply for the CCPG: Submit a FAFSA (preferred), OR California Dream Act Application (for students who qualify as AB540) OR a CCPG application

Per Title 5, section 58621, effective Fall 2016, students shall lose their CA College Promise Grant (formerly called BOG Fee Waiver) eligibility when placed on Academic or Progress Probation or any combination thereof for two consecutive primary semesters. The loss of CCPG eligibility shall remain in effect until the student is no longer on probation or the student has successfully appealed their loss of CCPG. *Foster Youth, as defined in Education Code 66025.9(b), shall not be subject to loss of CCPG under section 58621.
More CCPG Fee Waiver details

Students may appeal their loss of CCPG eligibility for the following reasons:

  • Extenuating Circumstances: Verified cases of accidents, illnesses, or other circumstances beyond the student's control
  • Students with disabilities who applied for, but didn't receive an accommodation in a timely manner
  • Significant academic improvement.
  • Changes to their economic situation.
  • Evidence student was unable to obtain essential support services
  • Special consideration of factors for EOPS, DSPS, CalWORKs and Veteran students

CA College Promise Grant Appeal Form

The Cal Grant GPA Verification Form is available on-line. The next deadline for forms to be submitted TBA

Follow these steps to be sure your GPA is submitted successfully: 
  1. Identify your situation below to determine if your high school or college is submitting your GPA Verification electronically or if you need to use the paper GPA Verification Form.
    1. If your GPA Verification is sent electronically, check your status on www.csac.ca.gov – “WebGrants For Students” to confirm your GPA was received.
    2. If you need to mail a paper GPA Verification Form, make sure it is postmarked by March 2
  2. What is your Situation?  
    1. You are a senior in California high school or 1 year out of California high school: Check with your high school to see if they sent GPA verification electronically for you by the March 2nd deadline. If not, have your high school verify your GPA by using the GPA Verification Form.  
    2. You have completed 16-23.5 degree-applicable semester units at San José City College: The San José City College Records office sends GPA verification electronically for you to the California Student Aid Commission by the March 2nd and September 2nd deadlines.
    3. You have completed 24 or more degree-applicable units at San José City College: The San José City College Records office sends GPA verification electronically to the California Student Aid Commission by the March 2nd and September 2nd deadlines.  
    4. You have not completed 24 degree-applicable units at San José City College, but you have completed 24 degree-applicable semester units (or 36 degree-applicable quarter units) at another college or university: Contact their Records Office to find out if they send GPA verification electronically for you or not. If not, have that college or university verify your GPA by using the GPA Verification Form
    5. You have not completed 16 degree-applicable semester units at any California Community College and it has been more than1 year since you graduated high school: Complete 16 units at a Community College so their records office can verify your GPA OR have your high school verify your GPA by using the GPA Verification Form OR follow the instructions on the GPA Verification Form to submit test scores instead of a GPA. 
NOTE: Students who have completed more than 16 transferable units at SJCC are not required to complete the form. SJCC will electronically send the information to CSAC. Cal Grant recipients, click here for more information about your Cal Grant Award.

Direct Loans are funds borrowed and must be repaid with interest. Funds will come from the US Department of Education. Loans should be used as a last resort to meet educational expenses. Students who wish to borrow:

  1. Submit a FAFSA and all requested documents
  2. Attend a Loan Orientation Fall 2025 Loan Orientation. Loan orientation dates TBD
  3. Submit the Direct Student Loan Request form at the Financial aid office.
  4. Submit the Master Promissory Note (MPN) Confirmation
  5. Submit the Entrance Counseling form.
  6. Please note, you may be asked to submit a recent educational plan signed by your counselor
  7. Submitting a loan request and additional documentation does not guarantee your loans being approved/certified. The Financial Aid Office may deny, on a case-by-case basis, a loan request for a student who has been in default, who has demonstrated or is demonstrating poor academic progress, and/or if a student already has a high cumulative student loan debt
  8. Students are only allowed to request to borrow up to $15,500 if dependent & $28,750 if independent of the aggregate loan limits  

Federal Work Study (FWS) allows students to earn money to meet educational expenses while gaining valuable work experience. 

  1. Jobs are typically available on campus, with some positions available at select off-campus locations.
