Sí Se Puede

Sí Se Puede

Sí Se Puede empowers Latinx students by enhancing their pathways to college, career, and transfer. The program leverages their personal and community strengths, helping them utilize their unique backgrounds and experiences to achieve their postsecondary goals.

Project Overview

San José City College (SJCC), an accredited, public, two-year Hispanic-Serving Institution in San José, California, is launching the Title V ¡Sí Se Puede! project to address educational equity gaps for its largely Hispanic and low-income student body. With 46% Hispanic enrollment, 46% first-generation college students, and 66% receiving financial aid, SJCC aims to increase enrollment, retention, completion, and transfer rates through strategies like Dual Enrollment, Summer Bridge Experiences, and First Year Experiences. The project also focuses on professional development for faculty to support educational equity and anti-racism goals. Addressing the impacts of COVID-19, the initiative includes mental health support and zero-cost textbooks. With a $2,961,575 budget from October 2023 to September 2028, the project seeks to boost certificate and degree completion by 20%, benefiting an additional 877 students.
