Student Employment Opportunities

 

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is looking to hire students to work as peer tutors; our program assists students in various subjects, either during scheduled appointments or on a drop-in basis. Tutoring sessions take place in-person or online.

 

If you are interested in working as a tutor at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) for $18.00/hour for 5-20 hours/week, please review the position profile and requirements below and submit a Peer Tutor Application.

 

Peer Tutors

Peer tutors are reliable and responsible individuals who have earned at least a B grade in the course/subject they would like to serve as a tutor. 

Subject areas may include all levels of Math, statistics, English C1000 or higher, ESL, physical sciences, social sciences, foreigh language, business & accounting, etc.

 

Peer Tutor Requirements:

  • Enrollment minimum: 6 units during the semester that you are applying to be a peer tutor (at SJCC and/or EVC)
  • Be recommended by at least one instructor
  • Enroll in the course LS 90: Directed Tutoring Experience (A zero-textbook-cost course) and pass with a B grade or better
  • Attend mandatory orientation on the first Friday of the semester in addition to staff meetings
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning student-centered tutoring techniques
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse culture and learning styles of SJCC's student population
