SJCC Top Degrees and Certificates Among 2023 Graduates

The Class of 2023 includes a diverse group of students from across departments on campus including many who found their Jaguar SPOT in Psychology, Business, and Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning.


San José City College is proud to award over 1,500 degrees and certificates for the 2022-23 academic year. The number of awards will be finalized by the end of the summer as petitions go through their final review. SJCC offers dozens of programs where students can find their Jaguar SPOT (Student Pathway to Opportunity and Transfer). and you may be wondering what the top degrees and certificates among our graduates are. 

Well, here’s the list of completed and petitioned degrees compiled by our excellent Admissions and Records team.

Associate Degrees  

Associate of Arts Liberal Arts: Social and Behavioral Sciences – 269  

Graduates studied about themselves and others as members of a larger society, including topics and discussion to stimulate critical thinking about ways people have acted in response to their societies allowing students to evaluate how societies and social subgroups operate.  

Associate of Arts Liberal Arts: Scientific Inquiry and Quantitative Reasoning – 98  

Graduates studied the natural sciences, which examine the physical universe, its life forms, and its natural phenomena.   

Associate of Arts Liberal Arts: Arts and Humanities – 71  

Graduates studied the cultural, literary, humanistic activities, and artistic expression of human beings.   

Transfer Degrees  

Associate of Arts for Transfer Psychology – 75  

Graduates learned about the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes, including cognition, emotion, sensation, perception, and interaction.  

Associate of Science for Transfer Business Administration – 58  

Graduates learned a blend of disciplines, including accounting, business law, business theory, economics, and mathematics.   

Associate of Arts for Transfer Sociology– 44  

Graduates studied human behavior in society using a variety of research and theoretical perspectives to analyze and explain human social behavior and social change.

Certificates of Achievement  

CSU GE – Level Three – 212  

Graduates fulfilled all lower division general education requirements before transferring to the California State University (CSU) system.  

Cosmetology – Level Three – 68  

Graduates learned the skills needed to become a licensed cosmetologist with technical and theoretical knowledge of basic skills in all phases of cosmetology, including current salon techniques and trends.  

IGETC – Level Three – 40  

Graduates earned the Certificate of Achievement in Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), which provides students with the option of fulfilling all lower division general education requirements for transferring to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.    

Medical Assisting: Clinical – Level Three – 36  

Graduates are prepared for employment as a clinical (back office) medical assistant in a physician’s office, clinic, or hospital setting.  

Esthetics – Level Two – 28  

Graduates are eligible to take the State Board Esthetics examination and are prepared for entry-level positions, i.e., esthetician, makeup artist, reconstructive makeup artist, and cosmetic sales.   

Dental Assisting – Level Three –25  

Graduates learned to assist in all phases of general dentistry and dental specialties, including prosthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
