Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) Program is a state-funded program to support educationally and economically disadvantaged
students in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) transfer
pipeline. MESA produces a diverse population of transfer-ready students to advance
their STEM educational journeys to four-year university programs and beyond. MESA
is changing the face of STEM by creating and developing a new generation of STEM leaders
and professionals.
Section 3
The mission of METAS is to serve and empower all our students through an education that is rigorous, supportive,
and just. We, the METAS staff, believe that each of our students is an agent of social
change who, with the proper support, will thrive as leaders, academics, research scholars,
and global citizens.
Section 4
The Puente project started in 1981 to help prepare educationally disadvantaged students for
college admission and success through its combination of accelerated instruction,
intensive academic counseling, and community mentoring.

The Umoja Community Program at SJCC envelops students in a supportive atmosphere designed to increase retention,
graduation, and transfer rates for students of African ancestry and other underserved
populations. By honoring student voices and intertwining them with the rich intellectual
and cultural traditions of the African and African American diaspora, we lay the foundation
for personal, academic, and career leadership.
Section 6
The Counseling Department is committed to providing quality, comprehensive academic, career, and personal counseling services
in a supportive environment to assist students in achieving their educational and
