Important Update
What You Need to Know
Following guidance from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, San José-Evergreen Community College District will re-enable Canvas access for all students and employees beginning at noon today.
As shared previously, Canvas — a vendor-supported system — was accessed by unauthorized individuals. The information that may have been exposed includes:
- Names
- Email addresses
- Student ID numbers (not Social Security Numbers)
- Messages within the Canvas platform
At this time, there is no evidence that passwords, Social Security Numbers, financial information, or dates of birth were affected.
As Canvas access is restored, we encourage everyone to remain alert for possible phishing emails or suspicious messages. Cybercriminals may attempt to take advantage of this situation by sending fraudulent emails or links that appear to come from the college, Canvas, or other trusted organizations.
Please keep the following safety tips in mind:
- Do not click on suspicious links or attachments.
- Be cautious of emails asking for personal information or login credentials.
- Carefully verify the sender’s email address before responding.
- Never share your password with anyone.
- Report suspicious emails to the IT Security Team at itsecurity@sjeccd.edu.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we continue working to protect our campus community and systems.
