English Proficiency Requirement
All Programs offered in English
San José City College requires F-1 international students to be proficient in English
to be fully admitted.
Students must demonstrate English proficiency by one of the following:
A) Examination
B) Completion of Prerequisite Course for college-level English at a U.S. institution.
C) Participation in Partner English Language Program. See below.
Accepted Exams:
Duolingo Minimum Overall Score: 95
TOEFL Minimum Score: 61 iBT /500 Paper

STEP-EIKEN Minimum Score: Step 2APTE Academic Test Minimum Score: 42

Partner english Language Programs
SJCC does not have an ESL program that is eligible for the F-1 visa. International students who need to study English can start at our of local language school partners where they will receive intensive English language instruction and are eligible for the F-1 visa.
Please let us know if you wish to start at a language school and we can offer you "Conditional Admission" to SJCC which may helpful when applying for the F-1 student visa.
