Update on Self-Service and Canvas Login Issues

During the first week of classes, the District was notified of students and faculty experiencing difficulties accessing Self Service and Canvas.  The root cause has been identified as a synchronization workflow issue between the District’s ERP system (Colleague) and the authentication systems. As a result, some students did not receive login credentials, while others received credentials that did not function properly.
At this time, the Information Technology Support and Solutions (ITSS) department has resolved the majority of these issues. A smaller number of students continue to experience login challenges, and ITSS is actively working to resolve the remaining cases as quickly as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our students, and we recognize that timely access to Self Service and Canvas is critical, particularly at the start of the semester. ITSS remains committed to providing prompt support and ensuring that all affected students can access the systems and resources necessary for their academic success.

Any students who continue to have technology issues can report them directly to the Admissions and Records office at AR@sjcc.edu or call (408) 288-3700.  Any faculty who continue to have technology issues can report them directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor of ITSS , Prashant Shinde (prashant.shinde@sjecd.edu) and please copy the interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, James Carranza (james.carranza@sjcc.edu).

Distance learning can be an excellent way to achieve your educational goals, especially if you need a more flexible schedule or cannot come to campus. Keep in mind:

  • Online courses require as much time and commitment as classroom-based courses.
  • Most communication with instructors and classmates will be in writing (email, discussion forums, chat, blogs, wikis, or other tools in Canvas).

Getting started with Canvas

All classes use an online learning management system (LMS) called Canvas.

Self-Service

Self-Service lets current students register, pay fees, view class schedules, grades, GPA, and transcripts, and more.
