The Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) offers eligible students at participating California public colleges and universities the opportunity to earn money to help defray their educational costs while gaining education-aligned, career-related employment. LAEP Benefits

The Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) helps students find paid internships in their educational field of study while partnering with the California Student Aid Commission. Eligible employers can hire LAEP students and be reimbursed 50–100% of student salaries.

  • Provides students compensation while gaining valuable work experience in their field of study.
  • Helps connect students with professionals and expand their networks.

  • LAEP is considered a form of financial aid and is part of your total financial aid allotment.
  • Student compensation cannot exceed the amount awarded by the Financial Aid Department.
  • LAEP compensation cannot be credited directly to tuition fees.

Student Eligibility

To qualify for LAEP, students must:

  • Be a California resident.
  • Be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Be enrolled at least part-time (6 units in the fall & spring semesters) at SJCC.
  • Be in satisfactory academic standing.
  • Complete the FAFSA.
  • Have unmet financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Employer Interest

When employers become part of the LAEP Program, it:

  • Promotes equity and access to career opportunities.
  • Builds connections between new hires and our community college.
  • Offers flexibility with work schedules and class times.
  • Provides up to 50% student compensation for for-profit employers and up to 90% for nonprofit employers.

LAEP INTEREST FORM

The following entities may employ students:

  • Nonprofit and for-profit employers – nonsectarian, nonpolitical organizations capable of providing full-time employment after graduation or connection to another employer able to provide full-time employment after graduation.
  • Public colleges – research centers and institutions operated by public postsecondary educational institutions, if their learning-aligned employment opportunities provide participating students with direct opportunities to participate in the research that is undertaken by the respective research centers and institutions.
  • Public schools – public schools operated by school districts, county superintendents of schools, the Department of the Youth Authority, or the Department of Education.
