Biography
Nargis is passionate about sharing her love for Physics and Astronomy and finds immense joy in every moment of teaching. With years of experience teaching college-level Physics and Astronomy lectures and labs, she has worked with students across multiple Bay Area community colleges and universities. Currently, she serves as Associate Faculty at San José City College and as a Lecturer at San José State University.
Nargis holds a Master of Science in Space Physics from Eastern Michigan University (EMU), where she also worked as a graduate assistant teaching Physics and Astronomy labs. Her graduate research focused on ionospheric plasma wave turbulence, conducted at the High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) in Alaska. For this work, she was honored with the Michigan Space Grant Graduate Fellowship.
She has also contributed to innovative projects, including the Lunar Plant Habitat initiative at NASA Ames, led by astrobiologist Chris McKay. This project aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of growing plants on the Moon using in-situ light, surviving partial gravity, and withstanding the Moon's harsh radiation environment. As a docent at NASA Ames, she enjoyed engaging with the public and inspiring students through informal science education.
Beyond teaching and research, Nargis has written science articles for local magazines and is deeply interested in topics like ancient civilizations, archaeology, and the wonders of the universe. Her hobbies include stargazing, digital photography, reading, cooking, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.
