  • Word Processing, using Word to compose documents, create mail merges, make quality business brochures, and create portfolios of business documents
  • Spreadsheet Management, using Excel to calculate large spreadsheets, generate charts, and use formulas
  • Database Management, using Access to manage large amounts of data, generate reports, and create queries
  • Presentation Techniques, using PowerPoint and Prezi to create state-of-the-art, professional presentations
  • Email and Calendaring, using Outlook to effectively write professional e-mails, organize calendars, and improve organizational skills

San José City College currently offers an Associate in Science (AS) Degree and three levels of Certificates in Computer Applications.

Students who complete all three Certificates or the AS Degree will be well-prepared for the Microsoft Office Specialist and Expert Level (MOS) Exams, the globally-recognized standard in Microsoft desktop certification.

SJCC offers an Associate in Science (AS) degree and three levels of Certificates of Achievement in Computer Applications:

  • Certificate of Achievement – Level 1
  • Certificate of Achievement – Level 2
  • Certificate of Achievement – Level 3

The program focuses on developing proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Students will also learn about computer literacy, internet usage, and the Windows operating system. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Expert Level exams, which are globally recognized certifications. 

Each certificate level builds upon the previous one, offering a progressive learning experience:

  • Level 1: Introduces basic computer literacy and fundamental Microsoft Office skills.
  • Level 2: Enhances skills with intermediate coursework, delving deeper into Microsoft Office applications and other relevant software.
  • Level 3: Focuses on advanced topics, preparing students for expert-level proficiency and certification readiness.
