The Accessibility Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month.
Meeting are held virtual on Zoom.

Charge

Recognizing that accessibility is an equity issue, the charge of the Accessibility Committee is to develop policies and guidelines that follow the legal requirements put forth by the Federal and State regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 503, 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, WCAG 2.1 AA, and Title 5 Educational Codes, and promote practices to increase accessibility both online and in on-campus instruction and activities at San José City College. 

  • Identify and recommend to the College the removal of any architectural, equipment, and/or program barriers that would impede access to any of the College’s facilities, services, or programs.
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures to ensure the prevention of future architectural, equipment and/or program barriers.
  • Provide recommendations to the College and ultimately the District on developing ADA and Section 508 Transition Plans.
  • Promote the knowledge and understanding of access.
  • Provide trainings and workshops to faculty and staff related to accessibility.  
  • Work closely with district and campus-wide committees. 

The Accessibility Committee will be made up of : 

  • 4 MSCC (Management, Supervisory, Classified Confidential) 
  • 4 Faculty — Approved by Academic Senate - Voting members 
  • 4 Classified — Approved by Classified Senate – Voting members 
  • 4 Students — Approved by Academic Student Government – Voting Members 
  • 1 Distance Education Coordinator – non-voting, ex oficio 

If there are two consecutive unexcused absences, members will be dismissed from the committee

A consensus model (50%+1) shall be used for making recommendations. A 70% of membership forms a quorum.
